*When the season to be jolly rolled around in 1922, young Norman Rockwell was chosen by the Saturday Evening Post editors to paint the holiday cover. He chose a very traditional looking Santa, asleep in the midst of finishing the Christmas toys. While he sleeps, his elves manage to quietly finish the toys so Santa is well-rested when he wakes to make his nighttime sleigh ride around the world. Although it was only the second Santa Claus cover that Rockwell had been commissioned to paint for the Post, Santa's Helpers has been a favorite for more than half a century. Schmid has aptly chosen a long-standing Christmas favorite, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, as a musical accompaniment to this sentimental scene.
